Top ten tricks to illuminate your kitchen

The kitchen is one of the spaces in the house where light is most important, not only because of the logical practical issues, such as cooking and preparing food, but also because it is one of the areas of the home where we spend the most hours per day and where we are most active.

The kitchen is more than just a place to feed ourselves; it is an environment to share with family and friends, a a place of rest and leisure,  and therefore requires a functional lighting and cozy. At Tegler Kitchens we give you the clues to make your kitchen a better place.

Two fundamental commandments

All interior designers and stylists agree on two fundamental rules to follow regarding kitchen lighting.
The first sacred rule is the more light, the better. And a second rule: if it is natural light, much better.

Top ten tricks to illuminate your kitchen

Not all homes have windows or natural light points for their kitchens. But at Tegler we know well how to get the best out of kitchens, that's why we want to share these tricks to improve your kitchen just by checking the lighting:

1. Diaphanous windows: remove dense curtains, drapes, blinds, shades or anything else that blocks outside light.

2. In the absence of natural light: bet for a general lighting, better white or cold light.

3. Illumination by zones: will help to delimit spaces and will contribute to reduce electricity consumption, since it avoids the use of general lighting.

4. Work area: better a cold light, which respects the natural color of the food.

5. Dining area: we recommend warm and cozy lighting with suspended lamps.

6. Ceiling light points: ceiling light points should be at least 70 cm apart. If they are too tightly concentrated, uncomfortable shadows will be cast in the work area.

7. Focal points of lightto work: under the furniture place recessed spotlights at an angle of 20 to 40 degrees to avoid shadows on the countertop.

8. LED strip lights: they are magic! LED strips provide a decorative lighting point in strategic places such as under cabinets or in the hood, and because they can be glued, they are very easy to install.

9. Interior lighting: Another trick that provides a pleasant environment is to illuminate the inside of cabinets, pantries, drawers or drawers with spotlights that light up with motion sensors or when the door is opened.

10. Opt for energy-saving lighting: Change your old fluorescent or incandescent bulbs for energy-efficient and long-lasting lights such as LED lights. LEDs consume up to 90% less than a traditional bulb, which means great savings in electricity consumption, and they also have a very long life of up to 50,000 hours, ten times more than an incandescent bulb.
